| Liposuction
is a cosmetic procedure performed for the
purpose of removing localized collections
of excess fat that are resistant to diet or
exercise. The procedure is not performed for
the purpose of weight reduction although patients
often find that they do lose a small amount
of weight with the surgery. The most major
benefit to liposuction would be that clothing
tends to fit better and smoother. The most
common areas for liposuction are the hips,
thighs and abdomen, as well as the arms, knees,
calves, upper torso, neck and under the chin.
The main goal of liposuction is to bring areas
of localized fat into proportion with the
rest of the body. Liposuction is a procedure
performed on patients from ages 15 to 65,
both male and female. In our experience, recovery
from liposuction varies with the extent of
the surgery but generally takes from 2-6 weeks.
In our practice, patients are required to
wear a girdle during the recovery period.
